On Sunday, he was treated at the circuit's medical clinic before being transferred to Faro hospital.

However, it was revealed on Tuesday that the 22-year-old had died as a result of his injuries.

According to Racesport.nl, Steeman's mother, Flora van Limbeek, passed away on Thursday.

She died at her home after suffering a cardiac arrest, according to reports. She was 59 years old.
